May, the former home secretary, is Britain’s second female prime minister after Margaret Thatcher, who ran the country between 1979 and 1990. She is expected to announce members of her cabinet Wednesday evening.
In a speech read in front of No. 10 Downing Street, May pledged to battle ‘social injustice’ and create a ‘country that works for everyone.’
In an appeal to those families struggling, Mrs May said: ‘We will listen not to the mighty, but you.’
David said serving the UK was ‘the greatest honour of my life’ before resigning.
