ECG Workers Say Government Is Blocking The Release Of A Load Shedding Timetable – How Dumb Does The NDC Think We Are?

prez-mahama
We have been living in this ‘dumsor’ for the past few weeks, but somehow government expects us not to notice, for the mere fact that it has not officially declared it.
President Mahama a couple weeks ago said the current challenges would be solved and there would be no need for ‘dumsor’ to be declared, yet we are still suffering the power cuts and worse of all, there is no timetable for us to know how to plan our activities.
Workers of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in the Western Region are claiming that government is the one stopping them from releasing a load shedding time table, even though they have had one prepared for quite a while now.
“What is happening in the country is not any fault in the power system, it is power rationing going on but they don’t want to admit.” the chairman of the Takoradi branch of the Junior Staff Workers union of the ECG, Samuel Tetteh Agbetor, told Starr Fm.
“When people get angry, they attack workers of the ECG. So we are pleading with the president to be honest with the situation and tell Ghanaians the truth. I know for a fact that the timetable for load shedding is ready but the president has blocked it,” he added.
That is something I wouldn’t remotely be surprised with, considering the situation. The President boldly got up and declared that there isn’t any dumsor going on, so relenting and publishing a timetable contradicts him. But it’s clearly going on and since Ghanaians aren’t blind, deaf or dumb – this intransigence is making things worse.
However, the deputy minister of power John Jinapor is claiming that there is nothing like that going on. Like his boss the President, all he has are vague promises and nothing concrete regarding when this hellish situation would stop.
“For the gentleman to accuse the President of lying, it is very unfortunate. However, we will give him the opportunity to prove that.

“…We don’t think we should burden people and go through the whole process of publishing a formal timetable. If there is the need for a timetable, we will not run away from it but we will not allow anybody to force that on us. The ECG is run by its management and nobody dictates to them. I can assure that the necessary measures have been taken and we will begin to see significant improvement in the power situation,” he said.
