Woow, how pathetic can us Africans always manoeuvre ourselves into being? It seems that in every sphere of life we are determined to be the worst examples.
Some athletes from Ghana face similar funding challenges to compete at various international events, but at least these Nigerians are being  proactive in trying to raise the cash themselves.
Two Nigerian athletes who have qualified for this year’s Olympics in Rio but who face  challenges from getting cash to compete from their local authorities, Regina George, a track athlete, and Antwon Hicks, a hurdler, have both been forced to seek crowdfunding if they want to participate in this year’s games.
“I just been told that we will have to pay our own way to the Olympics this year. Sadly this is such short notice for me to come up with the money.” George, who is seeking $4,000, said.
She added that this is not the first time this is happening to her, as she has used her own funds several times in the past to fund herself and been promised refunds, but have never received them.
Hicks is trying to raise $5,000. He is still over $2,000 shy of his goal, whilst Regina, who set up her fund Saturday, has already reached her stated $4,000 goal.
