Retired Referee Claims Ghanaian Referees Also Have 'Football Age' – Indulge In Age Cheating

Ghana-Football-Association
We often talk about age cheating among footballers, the utilisation of the so-called ‘football age’ – but it is a much more widespread problem in Ghanaian society.
In the civil service, people often try to skirt the 60 year retirement age limit, massaging documents as they get closer to the age where they voluntarily have to retire.
Now a retired Ghanaian referee has come out to lob accusations against other referees, claiming they also indulge in the practice.
E.R Biney told Starr Fm that it’s a pretty common practice, considering referees have to retire at age 45.
“I know that all the ages we are using are tampered with. If you look at the ages critically, year by year, the ages referee change we don’t have to pretend as if it is only football.” he said.

“From the beginning ages are not pegged. If you are going to be a referee, you have to be gainfully employed before, because you need to buy your kits and others before you get to FIFA.

“But you get to FIFA at 45 years you will be overage and approaching retirement so you need to reduce it,” he added in his conversation with Starr Sports.
Biney is an experienced Ghana Premier League referee who recently retired.
