Argentinian striker Gonzalo Higuain has joined reigning Serie A Champions Juventus in an Italian league record €90m deal.
The two clubs announced the move Tuesday, ending a two week saga that ended when Juventus triggered the forward’s release clause.
Higuain, last season’s Serie A top scorer with 36 goals, has signed a five year deal, and Juventus would pay Napoli the massive fee in two installments. He now becomes the third most expensive footballer of all time, after Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale.
The move completes a massive transfer window for Juventus, known as the ‘Old Ladies’ of Italian football, and sets them well on the way to their sixth consecutive league title.
Juventus could soon receive recoup their cost of this deal though, if a world record £120m deal for their star midfielder Paul Pogba to move to Manchester United is ever completed.
