A man from Malawi who proudly featured in a BBC documentary and admitted that he has for many years been involved in an initiation ceremony to “cleanse” young girls by having sex with them, has been arrested.
The man revealed in the feature that he had had sex with more than 100 girls and that he was HIV positive.
Under President Peter Mutharika’s orders, Eric Aniva has been arrested, the director of communication at State House-Bright Molande told the BBC’s Focus on Africa radio programme.
Eric Aniva, nicknamed “hyena” would be prosecuted for violating children’s rights and sex crimes for his role in the initiation, the communicator said.
He also said that the president was disturbed by the revelations and will crackdown on the barbaric cultural practice.
