John Hinkcley Jnr – Man Who Attempted To Assasinate Former US President Ronald Reagan To Be Freed

A man who attempted to assassinate former US President Ronald Reagan in 1981 is set to be released from the psychiatric facility he was being held at.
John Hinckley Jnr shot Reagan and three others in the assasination attempt outside a Washington Hotel in March 1981. The President was shot in the lung but survived, whilst his press secretary James Brady was shot in the head, suffering severe brain damage and had to use a wheelchair till his death in 2014.
Hinckley was found not guilty by reason of insanity, and was confined to a psychiatrist hospital in Washington receive treatment, where he has been for the past 35 years.
US District Judge Paul Friedman ordered his release, saying he posed no threat to himself or to society any longer. Hinckley, 61, would be released into the care of his mother at her home in Virginia next month.
Hinckley was infatutated with the actress Jodie Foster at the time, and had subjected her to enormous stalking. In his deranged mind, he had thought shooting the President would impress her. He is banned from any contact with her family in his his terms of release.
The judge also prohibited him from ever talking to the media.
