The ‘Panenka’ penalty is continuing to become more and more common these days as players decide to become just a tad more daring.
The chipped penalty made famous by Hungary’s Antonin Panenka in the 1976 European Championship final is an outrageously beautiful piece of skill when pulled off, and an embarrassing nightmare when missed.
Last night in the USA (in the early hours of Thursday GMT) Italian giants A.C Milan played German champions Bayern Munich in a friendly game at the Soldier Field in Chicago. After a 3-3 draw over 90 minutes, the game went to penalties to decide the winner, as the tie is part of the pre-season International Champions Cup.
Milan won 5-3, but the best moment was when Slovakian midfielder Juraj Kucka took his penalty. He calmly walked up, and took one of the best damn Panenka’s ever seen.
It’s a beauty to behold. Check it out below….
