Two officials of the Electoral Commission of Ghana in Walewale in the Northern Region have been sacked from their posts after they employed a pretty unorthodox method to register a high profile political personality.
The two, exhibition officer Yubi Ambrose and verification officer Mumuni Latifa, are reported to have carted off the register and their equipment to the house of the NPP running mate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, to verify his presence on the register.
The Commission is currently carrying out an exhibition of the voter’s register, where citizens are supposed to check if their details on the register are as they should be.
The NDC in the region made the accusations against the two officials Friday, leading to the Commission instantaneously responding to the news.
According to the NDC, the two were ordered by a high ranking officer in the region to go to Bawumia’s house to carry out the verification, and were allegedly paid Ghc 10,000 for their troubles.
The deputy regional director of the EC, Benjamin Bamubio told Starr News that the officials had been dismissed after being interrogated concerning the allegations.
