Sex and the City star-Sarah Jessica Parker has stated that she is not a feminist—to the shock of many fans.
Sarah Jessica Parker who stunningly covers the September Issue of Marie Claire said, “I am not a feminist. I don’t think I qualify,” when she was asked whether she’s a feminist or not.
The mother of three explained her reason as: “I believe in women and I believe in equality, but I think there is so much that needs to be done that I don’t even want to separate it anymore. I’m so tired of separation. I just want people to be treated equally.”
Sarah also commented on the existing gender pay gap – where in Australia alone women are generally paid 17.3% less than men for the same job.
She said “I would like all of that nonsense to end. I would like women to get paid for the value of their contributions, not by old-fashioned ideas about gender.”
From Parker’s answer, she believes in equal rights for women which is the feminist conception but she does not believe in its advocacy, hence not technically a feminist.
