Oheneyere (Dr) Gifty Anti has spoken out over the recent scandal over the number of unaccredited institutions bestowing honorary doctorates upon prominent Ghanaians, including herself.
A study carried out by two researchers at the Valdosta State University in the United States fingered several institutions in the US and Europe who did not have accreditation with either their local accreditation boards or with the National Accreditation Board (NAB) in Ghana.
But speaking on Radio Universe, Gifty said she had no idea the institution that honoured her, the Global Center for Transformational Leadership, did not have any accreditation. She said after she found out about the honour, she conducted her own research on them, and she didn’t find any negative thing about them.
“I don’t know what the worry of University of Valdosta or whatever’s worry is about. I’m privileged to know that all the way there they know about me.
“My honorary doctorate degree was give to me in 2012 by an institution known as Global Center for Transformational Leadership, you can Google them. When they brought me the letter that they wanted to honour me, there were about four people being honoured too. What I did was to Google and I saw some of the people they had given honorary doctorate from around the world and some of the places they’ve held their events.
“I didn’t read anything negative about them so I accepted it. That is all I know about. If they are fake, my bad. I didn’t have a cause to believe that they are not credible.” she added.
The report has sparked a huge storm in Ghana since its release, with several prominent personalities scrambling to discredit it.
