Young Ghanaian athlete Martha Bissah has won an athletic grant to the Norfolk University in the US state of Virginia to continue her studies and her athletic development.
The scholarship, which comes up to $32,000, was arranged by a former head of the Ghana Athletic Association, George Lutterodt. to help with the career development of Ghana’s only Olympic gold medallist in recent times.
Bissah, an 800m runner, won gold at the World Youth Olympics in Nanjing, China, in 2014 – but her career has since stalled due to several conflicts with athletic chiefs in the country.
“Bissah since she won the gold medal for Ghana, has never been able to represent Ghana in any competition. Her standards have gone backwards instead of forwards,” Lutterodt told Joy Sports.
“Obtaning such schorlaship to go to the States will improve her as she will have all the facilities at her disposal.
“She has also registered with the NCAA that is she can run within the circuit in the United States of America something that has been denied her…. It’s going to help her tremendously”
