Usain Bolt anchored the Jamaican relay team to victory in the 4X100m finals as the legendary athlete completed the unprecedented ‘triple-triple’ – three gold medals in three successive games.
Bolt ran across the line in 37.27s to lead the Jamaican team – comprising Yohann Blake, Asafa Powell and Nickel Ashmeade – to victory in the relay race.
Thus Bolt completed the record everybody had been anticipating – winning gold in the 100m, 200m and 4X100m for three successive Olympics. It means Bolt has won gold in every event he has ever competed in at the Olympics.
Japan finished the race in second place, with United States in third. However, a violation by the team led to them being disqualified and Canada being handed the bronze. Team USA have appealed the decision, and are waiting for the verdict.
