The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the most oppressive regime in the world but somehow a ‘holy land’ – has sent home 39 Ghanaian female pilgrims from this year’s Hajj, for the damnable offence of being minors.
Nine are actual minors, below the age of 18; but it is the status of the other thirty that is the real question. According to a press release issued by Ghana’s Pilgrim Affairs Office, they were sent home because they were under the age of 40 and travelled with no male escort.
Like seriously? This is actually a thing that happens? Why am I even surprised?
“The Pilgrims Affairs Office, Ghana regret to announce the repatriation of some 39 female pilgrims from the kingdom of Saudi Arabia.” the statement read.
“9 are minors whiles 30 are inappropriately categorised as without guardians because they are less than 40yrs. The Kingdom requires all ladies less than 40yrs entering the kingdom for hajj to be accompanied by an adult male relative.”
Well that’s just swell, isn’t it. A woman can be as accomplished as she can be, whether as a doctor or an engineer or whatever other profession you can think of, but as long as she isn’t 40, she needs some stinking man who is probably ten times less accomplished than she is or she isn’t ‘qualified’ enough to see Allah’s holy land.
This is the same regime that does not allow women to drive, or do anything without their husband’s consent. A woman who was once raped in Saudi Arabia got prosecuted because she was not accompanied by a male escort at the time! Yet this is the land people spend fortunes every year to go to because they have bought the propaganda that it is the holiest place in the world.
Even more disappointing, for me, is the matter of fact way the local media reported the news. Like telling ladies less than 40 years that they aren’t complete human beings unless escorted by a man is the most normal thing in the world. The level of mental slavery embedded in our psyche is insane.
I wouldn’t set foot in Saudi Arabia for a million bucks, and I’ll be damned if I’ll take my girlfriend or any female relative or friend anywhere near that cesspool of women oppression. There is nothing holy about Mecca, and if Africans weren’t so eager to get rid of their heritage to substitute it with that of the outsider we would have realised that long ago.
For us, it seems, a religion is not good enough unless it comes from the middle east.
“The Saudi Ambassador to Ghana is working with the PAOG Chairman Hon Ibrahim Rauf Tanko and Immigration officers to rectify the situation as soon as possible.  Insha Allah It is our hope that when it is done the affected pilgrims will return to continue their pilgrimage.” the statement concludes. Any woman who decides to go back after this humiliation and with a male escort is a disgrace to feminism.
