The traffic in Nairobi, Kenya may not be as thick as Lagos, Nigeria but with time being of great essence, people are ready to pay a little more if they can beat traffic to get to their destinations on time.
Therefore, the cab-hailing service-Uber has teamed up with Corporate Helicopters in Kenya to start offering helicopter taxi service in Nairobi, the BBC reports.
The website adds that, to effective run this service, a “cab will pick up a passenger and then take them to the nearest helipad for the flight.”
“An average journey is expected to take 20 minutes – a breeze compared to the long hours commuters usually have to spend in traffic,” the BBC states.
Of course, this is not going to be cheap–it will be far beyond the transport budget of many people. Though Uber is yet to released prices for this, such exclusive service already exists in other countries with passengers being charged “between $200 (£152) and $300 for a short flight.”
To create a buzz and excitement around this new upscale air-transport service, Uber announced on Wednesday that it users will be given a chance to enjoy free helicopter rides in Nairobi and Mombasa on Sunday-September 4.
The statement said: “Twelve lucky winners will have the opportunity to uniquely experience either the majestic Rift Valley from Nairobi or the calming coastline in Mombasa, with celebrities from each city.”
Already Uber’s helicopter services are in full service in USA, Brazil and other countries.
