A near total eclipse of the sun occurred in most parts of Africa Thursday (briefly in Ghana).
The annular eclipse is a near eclipse of the sun, but because of the moon’s position vis-a-vis the sun, it’s unable to entirely cover it, leaving a small portion of the sun shining over the moon – an effect known as the ‘ring of fire’.
Those in the best spots for viewing the eclipse were in countries such as Gabon, Congo-Brazzaville, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Madagascar, and the French Indian Ocean island of La Reunion.
The event could also be spied briefly from Ghana.
