29 year old Ghanaian boxer Richard Commey failed in his bid to capture his first world title after losing a split decision fight to the USA’s Robert Easter Jr Friday night.
Easter won the IBF Lightweight title 114-113, 115-112, 113-114 to pick up a slim split decision victory over the Ghanaian in an action packed fight that has split opinion on who actually won.
The bout was filled with action start to finish, and Commey knocked down his opponent in the 8th round. The final round saw both boxers taking heavy punches yet staying on their feet.
Both fighters were undefeated heading into the bout and Commey’s record now falls to 24-1 (22 KOs). He is expected to be handed a rematch soon due to the controversial nature of the decision.
