Supporters of the nation’s two major parties, the NDC and the NPP, clashed in the Odododiodio constituency Friday during a political debate in the area organised by 3Fm.
The program was for the  two candidates for the area’s parliamentary seat, the NDC incumbent Nii Lante Vanderpuye and the NPP’s Nii Lante Bannerman, to outline their vision for the area to their constituents.
Before the debate, placard wielding NPP supporters had already incensed the NDC supporters with their inscriptions attacking the MP. The flashpoint was when an NDC  supporter climbed on stage and started spraying one cedi notes on the NPP candidate. NPP supporters also reportedly started spraying Ghc 10 notes on Nii Lante Vanderpuye.
The general rowdiness of the crowd, especially the NPP supporters who consistently booed the Minister anytime he took the stage, enraged the NDC fans, one of who climbed on stage and punched one man from the entourage of the NPP candidate.
The situation degenerated from there, with both sides hurling missiles and ensconced in a melee. One lady, an NDC supporter, was reportedly stabbed, whilst several others sustained varying degrees of injury. The police, with help from several town leaders, were able to restore calm amongst the supporters.
