Close To 1,000 NDC Members In Kumbungu Defects To Join The NPP

Mass defection on this scale is pretty unusual in politics, but the people of Kumbungu in the Northern Region say they are tired of the government and are determined to make a statement.
Over 800 NDC loyalists in the locality, in the Northern Region of Ghana, have announced their defection to the opposition NPP due to the neglect of the government to them despite consistently voting for the NDC.
The disaffected citizens, from Kumbung-Kukuo Yipeli-Naayili and Duli Zugu – held a rally to announce their mass defection. They said life has become unbearable under the NDC, who have shown no inclination of alleviating their suffering.
“We have been voting for the NDC since 1992 in these three communities with more than 600 households and we have been knocking the doors of the NDC party to meet our demands and no response.” Spokesperson Mahama Seidu told Citi.
“As for this time round, we won’t agree and we are going to vote for our own development because in these three communities there is no electricity.
“We have realised that there is no way we can be sustained under the NDC and that is why we have to quit. There is no single person from this area who is under the youth employment programme and we have to ask ourselves what are we voting for?” he added.
The NPP Parliamentary candidate for the constituency, Iddrisu Muqtar Dems, and other party officials from the region where are the rally to welcome the defectors to their party.
