Asamoah Gyan is less than a month back in the Gulf but he’s already winning trophies, aiding his new club Al Ahli to a win in the Arabian Gulf Super Cup held in Cairo late Tuesday.
Gyan’s Al Ahli side beat Al Jazira 2-1 to lift the historic tie played in Egypt, the first time the event has been hosted outside the Emirates.
Gyan was on the bench for much of the game, coming on in the 87th minute for Ismaeel Al Hamadi as they saw out the game.
Gyan joined the UAE side on loan from Chinese Superlig side Shanghai SIPG at the end of the last window, having failed to secure a move to English Champiohsip side Reading FC that set off a toxic firestorm.
The SuperCup is usually played between the league and cup winners from the previous seasons, and was held outside the country for the first time this year.
