President John Dramani Mahama dropped his NDC ‘manifesto highlights’ Tuesday nights, to give Ghanaians a little taste of what to expect when the party launches its manifesto this weekend.
Speaking at the Banquet Hall of the State House where the program took place, the President, touching on the Creative Arts sector, said that a ‘Provident’ fund would be set up for ageing artists to take care of them as they lose their strength with age.
“You find that a lot of these artistes…we like them very much, we like their music and all that but because of piracy and other things they are not able to make enough money or even when they make money and they are young, they don’t invest sufficiently so when they grow old, a lot of them become quite indigent and poor.
“So the Ministry of Tourism Culture is going to set up a Provident Fund so that aging artistes can receive a small monthly stipend so that they don’t live in poverty and misery,” he said.
The President has been doing a portion of that with his ‘Celebrities for Mahama’ project, which, headed by Mr Beautiful, have made donations to several aged and ailing artisans in the country.
He is, however, promising a government sanctioned fund that would do this work, if reelected.
