The West African Examination Council have announced the release of the provisional results of this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
The Council announced the much anticipated release with a press statement Wednesday signed by its head of Public Affairs Mrs. Agnes Teye-Cudjoe.
The highlights of the release include the cancellation of the entire results for 321 schools in the country, allegedly for engaging in examination malpractice. The Council says investigations are ongoing to determine if any wrongdoing occurred in those schools.
188 students also had their results cancelled for engaging in some sort of malpractice, 22 of them for entering the exam hall with mobile phones. The use of a software (the Item Differentia Profile) was also used to root out students who cheated in the objective part of the examination.
WAEC also said most of its new measures to curb malpractice, such as flying the questions via helicopters to exam centres, seems to have worked in curbing the widespread leaks past exams have been bedevilled with.
These results are provisional, WAEC stressed, adding that they are in the process of forwarding the final results to the schools. In the meantime, people can check their results on the council’s website.
