It Costs a Whooping £25,000 or More to Have an Average UK Wedding

koh-samui-wedding-resorts-1024x682There has been a lot of discussions in recent times about the amount of money people spend on their weddings and how lavish some of these ceremonies can be to the extent that most end up using all their life savings for a ceremony that last just a couple of hours. If you thought this trend was just peculiar to couples in Ghana then you are in for a surprise.
According to a survey published by Huffington post, it will cost a couple in the United Kingdom a whopping £25,090, to have an average wedding. The findings showed that the average cost had gone up 21% from the last time a study was done on the subject.
Findings from the survey indicates that the biggest expenditure on the wedding list is venue hiring, which  was also ranked as the top priority by brides when planning their big day costs an average of £3,738 making up 14.8% of the total cost.
The second biggest expenditure is the honeymoon, costing an average of £3,366 which is 13.4% of the total budget followed by food at a cost of £3,072 taking up 12.2% of the budget. The findings also indicated that the average cost of an engagement ring is now £1,742. The total amount spent on clothes is now £2,400, which includes £1,055 for the wedding dress compared to £293 for the groom’s outfit. A total of 35% of grooms opt to hire their suit rather than purchasing it.
The survey which was conducted by hitched.co.uk a wedding website in the United Kingdom interviewed more than 3000 brides to come out with its findings. It was realised that parents still play a big part financing weddings of their children, with 48% couples getting financial assistance from their parents while 6% still opt for the traditional way of letting the bride’s parents pay for it all.
Caroline Bradley, editor of hitched.co.uk, said: “It’s no surprise to see that wedding planning couples are putting the venue as their top priority – even ahead of setting a budget.
“By choosing the wedding venue in the early planning stages, couples can then plan around this easily – with a fixed location, confirmed wedding date and cost per head already in place.
“We also see that couples are opting for guests to help fund towards the honeymoon – which may be a contributing factor to the average wedding spend being at its highest in seven years. With guests footing the bulk of the honeymoon bill, couples are free to spend the majority of the budget on the big day itself.”
