Who recalls Ruth? The singer was one of the top acts on the first season of Mentor, the TV3 singing reality show that used to thrill the entire nation a while back.
Born Ruth Williams and now performing under the name Esi, she even achieved some post mentor success with an appearance in one of the most popular tunes of its time – the Last Two’s ‘Keva’ (U Dey Craze) featuring Edem, Sarkodie and Kwaw Kese.
Speaking in an interview on the Cosmopolitan Mix on Joy FM with Mamavi Owusu-Aboagye Tuesday, Ruth recounted her experience as a teenager and how she was raped at 18 by someone close to her family.
“I have gone through rape before and I know the experience when it comes to rape. I feel that it is about time that Ghanaians, Africans… address these issues and solve them. There are little children whose fathers are sleeping with them and they can’t talk about it.”
Ruth talked about the need for victims to be courageous and report the incidents, recalling how she was too timid and scared after her experience to report it to anyone.
