Former Cameroonian captain Rigobert Song has woken up out of his coma and is currently ‘breathing by himself’ in some good news for fans of the ex-defender.
Song slipped into a coma on Sunday after falling unconscious at his home in Yaounde and reportedly suffering a stroke. He was rushed to the nearby Yaounde Central Hospital and thankfully has been stabilised.
News came out Tuesday morning that the 40 year old has woken from his coma, with a picture of him circulating on twitter showing him on his hospital bed.

“He has come out of his coma and the oxygen has been disconnected,” Dr Louis Joss Bitang A Mafok, director of the hospital’s emergency centre confirmed the news, according to the BBC.
“His high blood pressure has returned to normal and the cerebral haemorrhage has been controlled.”
Dr Mafok added that Song would be flown to France to continue treatment.
“A medical aircraft will be in Cameroon (Tuesday) in the morning, we will have a working session with the French team and then he will be flown to France,” he added.
That aircraft has since arrived and carted Song away.
A hugely distinguished former international, Song captained the Cameroonian national side ‘The Indomitable Lions’ during their stretch as the most dominant side on the continent. He played for Liverpool, West Ham and Galatasaray in a distinguished European career. He is the uncle of former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder Alex Song, and had been working with Cameroon’s football federation in recent years.
