A military officer pictured sipping a box of Kalyppo as part of the recent craze, the #kalyppochallenge inspired by the NPP flagbearer Nana Akuffo-Addo, has found himself in big trouble for the act.
Private Osei Owusu is under investigation after a picture of him circulating showed him sipping the local juice made popular by Nana Addo, and which his supporters have flooded social media with over the past couple of weeks – in an apparent act of support of the NPP Presidential nominee.
However, the act has been identified by the top brass of the military as contravening the services code of conduct, and thus the Private has been placed under investigation. A senior military officer, Colonel Aggrey Quarshie, explained on Joy News that the act has underlying political connotations, which is unacceptable for the military that is supposed to stay neutral.
“Election duty is coming and what if you are leading a party and team members realised you belong to party A and they belong to party B what do you think would happen?” the Colonel asked on the station.
He also added that having taken the photo in military garb, it belonged to the army and not to him per the rules of the Armed Forces.
