Nayele Ametefe, aka Ruby Appiah, the lady of many names and aliases, has applied to the government of Ghana to renounce her Ghanaian citizenship.
Nayele, who holds dual citizenship as a Ghanaian and an Austrian, wants to retain just the latter and jettison the former, mainly due to some advantages that would accrue to her if she solely held EU citizenship.
Starrfmonline reports that the currently jailed kinpin wrote to Ghana’s Interior Ministry a few weeks ago to apply for the change. She wants her name expunged from the records as a Ghanaian.
“…Nayele could benefit from a prisoner transfer arrangement between the UK and Austria if she is identified only as an Austrian.” Starrfmonline writes.
“…The system in Austria generally allows for the early release of prisoners. Often, first time offenders are allowed to serve half of their term and then granted a pardon. The Executive Court can also release a prisoner at their own discretion.” the report added.
Nayele was arrested at Heathrow in November 2014, travelling with a hefty amount of cocaine from Ghana. She received an eight year and eight month sentence in January last year after pleading guilty.
