A woman wanted to teach her profligate husband a lesson about wasting so much money on the lottery – instead she ended up landing a huge lottery win.

Glenda Blackwell of Leicester, North Carolina, was peeved at her husband for always spending so much money on lottery tickets even though he never won. Desperate to prove a point to him, she turned down his request to buy lottery tickets for him, instead buying a separate scratch and win lottery ticket.

Blackwell bought $10 Carolina Millions scratch-off tickets instead of the Powerball tickets her husband requested. She planned to scratch it to show him that no matter the lottery one played, one would never, ever win.

“I was going to be ugly and buy a scratch off to show him they didn’t hit,” Blackwell told CNN affiliate WLOS. “Sometimes I get aggravated with him, so I tell him, ‘You’re just wasting your money.'”

Instead, she won a million dollars upon scratching off the ticket.

“I had to eat my words, but they were worth eating,” Blackwell. “So, I was very happy.”

“Blackwell picked the lump sum option — $415,503 after taxes,” CNN reports  “which she will use to buy a home and some land, help out her daughter and put money away for college for her two granddaughters.
