The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo, has hit back at President Mahama over some tribal comments he has been making in the North in the course of his campaign there – claiming he is willing to say and do anything so long as it would get him elected.
President Mahama raised more than a few eyebrows over the weekend when comments of his in the North deemed tribalistic surfaced – claiming that he pities Northerners who vote for the NPP as they are being used – and added that Dr Bawumia himself is being used and that he would never be allowed to lead the NPP.
In a series of tweets Monday morning, the NPP flagbearer attacked the statement, and decried the President’s decision to indulge in such tribal sentiments.

The statements made by @JDMahama are very unfortunate and characteristic of a President who has no plans of presiding over a unified country

With the signs clearly spelt on the wall that Mahama has lost the Presidency, he has begun using divisive language in his campaign.

Mahama is in the North telling the people that because he is from the North, the people should vote for him. This is sad #StopTribalPolitics

It is sad and shocking that our President is using language that will divide us & not language that brings us together. #StopTribalPolitics

I will not come before you and tell you to vote for me because I am from the Eastern Region or from Okyeman. #StopTribalPolitics

The policies I have outlined over the course of my campaign should be the basis of your voting for me. #StopTribalPolitics
