Government Is Wrong To Pay More Attention To Footballers Than Actors And Musicians Because We 'Sell Ghana' – Yvonne Nelson Laments

Actress Yvonne Nelson has called for more support for the arts and entertainments in the country since they actually sell the country more on the global stage than other disciplines.
According to the actress, the industry receives so little support from government because they are not respected, even though they raise high the flag of Ghana through their works.
Yvonne went on her little rant during an appearance on Hitz Fm with MzGee, bemoaning the abundance of support handed to footballers, for instance, whilst the creative arts are left to rot.
“The whole industry is slow. The problem now is piracy because the DVD market is gone. Producers used to get their returns from CDs and DVDs but that is no more so you can imagine the pain.
“If government can build cinemas in all regions for us it will really help. If that is done you can release a movie today and somebody in Tamale can also watch it same time with someone in Accra.” Yvonne said, speaking of the difficulties hitting the movie industry now.
“There are so many things they can do for us but I believe we don’t have that respect or they don’t respect us as much.
“They would rather pay attention to footballers than we actors and musicians but we sell Ghana. A lot of people know Ghana through the music and movies we produce from here. People did not know Ghana but because of our music and movies, Caribbeans know of us. How can they focus on football and forget us? Are we just thinking it’s all about football? It is very wrong”
Nelson’s rant follows a similar one from Bibi Bright, who said the Ghana Movie Industry is dead.
