The President of the Republic, John Dramani Mahama, celebrates a milestone today (Tuesday, November 29) as he adds one more year to his age.
President Mahama is now 58 years old – just one year younger than Ghana!
Mahama was born on November 29, 1958, to Emmanuel Adama Mahama and Hajia Abiba Nnaba in Damongo. His father was a rich rice farmer and teacher, and able politician. Mahama thus had quite a rosy childhood.
He schooled at Achimota, Ghana Secondary School in Tamale and the University of Ghana, where he received a Bachelor’s degree in history and a post graduate diploma in Communications. He completed a post graduate degree in Social Psychology at the Institute of Social Sciences in Moscow, completing in 1988.
In politics, President Mahama is one of the most experienced politicians in the country, having served at every level of public service. He has been an Assembly man, an MP, a deputy Minister, a Minister, Vice President, and in 2008, became President of Ghana after the death of his boss, John Atta Mills.
In exactly one week’s time, Ghanaians go to the polls to give our verdict on Mahama’s four years in office. For now, Happy birthday to the first gentleman of the land.
