The Brazilian Fox Sports channel on Wednesday night aired 90 mins of silence in place of the Copa Sudamericana final which was supposed to air at the time.
Nearly the entire roster of Brazilian club Chapecoense were wiped out in a plane crash as they were travelling from Brazil to Colombia for the first leg of the final, and the unorthodox program was to pay tribute to all those fallen stars.
“Fox Sports Brasil was supposed to broadcast the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana final between Atletico Nacional and Chapecoense on Wednesday, however the match was suspended after Chapecoense’s plane tragically crashed on the way to Colombia.” the station wrote on its website.
“In lieu of alternative coverage, Fox Sports Brasil honored the victims of the fatal plane crash with a 90-minute moment of silence.”
