Monday night was one of mayhem in the Northern Regional district of Chereponi as clashes between NDC and NPP supporters led to at least one person dead and many others injured.
The Northern Regional town is an election flashpoint as similar incidents have occurred there in the past and it seems for this year’s elections, it is getting to be no exception.
Supporters of the two parties were both in the town moving about after either held rallies when a provocation, no one knows who started it, sparked a melee.
Both sides were reportedly armed with cutlasses and guns and the violence left one dead and as many as fourteen injured.
“We don’t know who started the provocation” Supt. Henry Amankwating said, told Joy News, adding that they are still investigating the incident.
“They were cutlassing people [each other], burning stores and there were gun shots” he added.
The identity of the deceased have been revealed as Abdulai Nnambe, a 31-year old resident of the town.
