CHRIS-VINCENT Writes: The 'Arrogant Dead Goat' Has Finally Been Buried—Multiple Campaign Songs and Avalanche of Empty Campaign Promises on the Back of Deluded Celebrities Do Not Win Elections

I have always maintained that even though I do not have a vote, as a left-wing democrat, my political ideologies resonate well with the New Patriotic Party and therefore if I were to vote in the 2016 presidential elections, I would have voted for Nana Akufo Addo.
Beyond my accentuated political ideological position, for the simple fact that the President Mahama-led NDC administration incessantly without apology and any sense of urgency took Ghanaians for granted—somewhat thinking Ghanaians are inherently stupid was enough for me or any reasonable person to vote against them.
The Electoral Commission of Ghana has become a snail institution in the last 24 hours in declaring the results, making it impossible to decipher the official positions of the two main contenders of the election-Nana Akufo Addo and John Dramani Mahama. But multiple credible independent sources have been filling in the gap with figures that reasonably project an overwhelming win for Nana Addo and the NPP.
It’s therefore safe, perhaps even true, to conclude that Nana Akufo Addo has finally buried the arrogant dead goat who held this insane misconception that Ghanaians have short memories and therefore decided to commission almost all his developmental projects a few weeks to the elections in an attempt to beat them with his demagoguery political game.
Ghanaians, even if temporary sane have shocked President Mahama and the NDC whose abuse of incumbency at some point sent shivers down the bones of many supporters of the NPP.
With countless ‘JM Toaso’ billboards across the country and the non-stop play of NDC’s political adverts on TV and radio, even the staunchest NPP supporter would concede that at a point during the campaign wondered if the elephant was indeed going to be able to push the dead goat into his own dug grave.
President Mahama’s lost should have been anticipated—provided his team were in touch with Ghanaians who unendingly expressed their displeasure with the sort of governance they were serving during their tenure.
Although I believe the NDC lost the elections due to two main factors; the gross arrogance of those they put in power including the President and the avalanche of unchecked corruption that befell Ghanaians under their stewardship, their lost marks a beginning of a new era of a Ghanaian democracy of enlightenment.
Ghanaians are no more acute mentally constipated, propaganda has little or no influence—and perhaps for the first time, the Ghanaian absurd party loyalty is beginning to be critically evaluated by Ghanaians themselves taking into consideration performances of those in government.
‘Dumsor’ compounded the already existing anger of Ghanaians, a point they had reached because of countless unexplained NDC governance impairments—such as; the Woyome scandal, Unprecedented Public Debts, Depreciating of the Economy, High levels of Unemployment, the SADA scandal, Gyeeda (Akomfem) saga, the Gargantuan Corruption, the collapse of the NHIS, the Bus Branding scandal, High Utility Tariffs and several others.
It wasn’t all that gloomy though, President Mahama made some substantial progress, albeit slow in the areas of infrastructure.
Of course, ‘Dubai’ has been brought to Ghana, several kilometers of roads have been constructed, hospitals and schools have been built. But the relationship between the hardship Ghanaians were put through and the late attempt to change the narrative with amazing infrastructure developments was disproportionate, such that, no number of ‘supercalifragilisticexpialidocious’ projects commissioning, money sharing or campaign promises was enough to alter the set minds of the electorates.
On the back of incumbent influence and resource, John Mahama and the NDC bought some of the’ powerful’ and loud celebrities including Mzbel and John Dumelo. And as this election has confirmed the United States’ precedent, they were all swimming in a grand delusion of influence. There was no way any star power would have been able to convince the Ghanaian electorates to stake another risky bet with the NDC.

Undeniably, the NDC had the best campaign songs—with ‘John Mahama Onaapo’ being enjoyed by even the opposition. But elections share nothing in common with the Ghana Music Awards or even the Grammys.
Now, it’s over—and the dead goat’s political career has been brought to an end by a man on his way to retirement amidst all the internal chaos of his own political party.
Congratulations to the indefatigable Nana Akufo Addo.
