Players of the Nigerian female football team, the Super Falcons, held a protest outside the country’s parliament house earlier today.
The Super Falcons represented the country at the just ended African Women Championships held in Cameroon, where they won the trophy for a record eighth time after beating the hosts in the final.
Despite their heroics, the team’s bonuses have not been paid to them, and they have been camping in a hotel and refusing to leave until they are paid.
The team marched on Parliament today, where the President had arrived to deliver the nation’s budget. They then marched to Aso Rock Villa to present the same demands for their $17,150 (each) to be paid.
The Chief of Staff to the President, Malam Abba Kyari, reportedly told the squad the President was aware of their predicament and was working on getting it solved for them soon.
Ghana and Nigeria – we are siblings in more ways than one.
