John Legend is not happy at all that Kanye West decided to visit Trump tower and get feted by the President-elect, describing the entire meeting as a publicity stunt.
West visited the real estate mogul and incoming US President Tuesday, and the pair posed for photographs after the meeting, with Trump describing the eccentric rapper as a ‘good man’.
Kanye said after the meeting that he described a slew of issues with Trump, including some that should be on interest to Legend, such as race relations. But the singer does not believe there was any good faith in those kinds of discussions, and sees the whole thing as a publicity stunt.
“I don’t think it’s impossible to talk to (Trump) about issues, but I won’t be used as a publicity stunt. I think Kanye was a publicity stunt,” Legend told the French outlet Clique.
The singer added: “I think Trump has been corrosive, his message has been corrosive to the country.
“I think the things he’s promised to do have been very concerning for a lot of people, and for Kanye to support that message is very disappointing. Whatever’s in his mind, I disagree with him.”
Kanye stayed neutral throughout the Presidential elections, but then revealed in his famous concert meltdown that he would have voted for Trump if he voted. Legend was vocally for Hillary Clinton, a harsh critic of Trump’s brand of divide and conquer politics.
