Spanish club Real Madrid rounded off their success laden year with a final trophy after beating Japanese side Kashima Antlers in the final of the Club World Cup.
Fifa’s end of year competition for the Champions of their respective federations ended with a thrilling finale won by 4 goals to 2, after extra time, by the European Champions.
2016 Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hattrick to lead his side to victory, claiming the side’s second world trophy in two years after victory in the 2014 edition of the same competition. Madrid also won the UEFA Champions League and Super Cup in the year under review.
Africa’s representatives at the tournament, South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns, finished dead last.
