Imported 'Plastic' Rice Meant For Sales During Christmas Seized By Customs Officials In Nigeria

Officials in Nigeria have seizes 102 bags of plastic rice that were meant for sales in the country during the Christmas period.
The Federal Operations Unit (FOU) of the Nigeria Customs Service, (NCS) carried out the seizure from some businessmen who wanted to make a quick buck this festive season.
According to Nigeria’s The Vanguard, about 102 bags were seized from a Lagos warehouse, with the rice, branded as ‘Best Tomato Rice’ – having no manufacturing, expiry or NAFDAC registration number (Standards Authority number).
Officials are unaware of how much of the stuff has been sold, but investigations are currently underway to determine it.
“As I speak with you, we have successfully evacuated 102 bags of 25kg branded tomato Rice without any date of manufacture not to talk of expiration date and NAFDAC Batch Number.” An official of the agency told the site.
“We are still investigating to ascertain how many of this rice has been circulated and how best to retrieve the in order to protect and safeguard the health of Nigerians and bring those behind it to book.”
