Three sisters in Tarkwa-Nsuta in the Western Region have died whilst sleeping after inhaling generator fumes in their mother’s drinking spot.
The three, aged 15, 13 and 7 respectively, were found dead the next morning after sleeping in their mother’s drinking spot with a generator turned on inside to provide them with electricity during a power outage.
According to Chief Inspector George Sekyi of the Tarkwa-Nsuta station office, the bodies of the three have been deposited at the Tarkwa Government Hospital morgue awaiting autopsy.
Speaking to Starr Fm, the Inspector said the three helped the drinking bar operator at the bar and after closing, decided to sleep in the bar.
However, ‘dumsor’ occurred in the area and therefore a generator was put on inside the bar to enable them access electricity. However, they were found dead the next day, with the exception of another sister who was still alive and was rushed to hospital for treatment.
Deaths from inhaling generator fumes was for a while occurring frequently, during the height of the power crisis – but that has stopped since them as power has stabilised in the country.
