AUDIO: How Martha Amakye Scammed Me Out of 10,000 GHS I Invested Into A Stanbic Bank’s Investment Package + I Am Sure Her Branch Manager Was in On This SCAM—A Victim Tells Her Heartbreaking Story

After unending complaints from various Stanbic Bank Ghana customers, the bank on 30th December 2016 Stanbic Bank posted a flyer on its Facebook page, bearing a photo of Miss Martha Amakye, indicating that she was wanted by the police.

The bank stated that Miss Martha Amakye, a Personal Solutions Consultant had been running a fraudulent operation from their own premises, Tema Community 1 Branch.

And in a typical employer ‘runway’ from liability manner, Stanbic added that Martha Amakye is an outsourced staff—meaning, she was an agency staff and not a direct employee of the bank.

I have called the above move by the bank’s “pretty stupid and unnecessary”—“as if [stating that Martha Amakye was an outsourced staff] makes what she did right or will in any way mitigate the gargantuan loss suffered by the many who trusted the bank to effectively check the activities of its employees, especially when being run smoothly from their own premises.”

Though the bank claims it did not have any idea that Miss Martha Amakye who was recently awarded as Stanbic Bank’s star banker/employee of the month and with her photo gigantically plastered at their Tema Community 1 has for many months been running a sort of Ponzi-scheme from the comfort of the bank—a victim who has lost 10,000 GHS (100 million old cedis) to this investment scam thinks the manager of the branch was in on this.

Per what the victim says, the scheme had been running for over 2 years–and reasonably, no single person can confidently do this from a bank without others being in on it.

Miss Martha Amakye is said to have successfully signed up several customers to some sort of high-interest investment package—where she promised them that the low-key investment package being run by Stanic rewards customers with as much as over 14 percent monthly interest on their deposits.

From a conversation with one of the victims, it becomes obvious Martha couldn’t pull it all by herself—considering the fact that Stanbic Bank SMS alerts were regularly sent out to those who signed up and she comfortably conducted this operation from a branch, in the open and sometimes with colleagues around.

  1. So what are they doing now? she’s on the run and from what I just heard from the customer, this thief is smarter than the Isis squad. Wtf, a mere temp staff has been defrauding clients for two years and yet award her as a best employee. Why didn’t the company hire her and run a thorough background check earlier? The board of directors needs free shs upgrade because they’re as slow as the tortoise himself smh. It could have been avoided if the company auditing teams were smart enough to compare transactions. Maybe all the team of directors were involved in the scandal and now blaming it on the temp staff alone. I don’t trust these small banks in Ghana anyways.

    • Well Said…They are all part of the plan. The so called Directors know exactly where this thief is hiding, but they will never call her out. That what happen when you choose to invest your money in small banks in Ghana. The Customers should also know the interest rate is too good to be true. On well, i hope they find the thief sooner than later.

      • Yes they’re part of the scandal. It doesn’t make sense to me how an ordinary temp would go as far as deceiving clients for over two years. They had their reason for not hiring her. Am 100% sure she’s hiding in the uk or the USA. Too many Nigerian banks in Ghana. I pray nana help close down any fraudulently banks.

  2. A lot of small banks in Ghana are frauds, a lady living in my house back in Gh and other people in the area were told if they bank 100gh cedis they will get ntoma and they did but one day a rumour spreaded that the bank would close, and a lot of people went and wanted their money back, they tried to convince people that the bank would not close but they didn’t give people the money back, eventually they just tan away. And no one got their money back.

    • Yes they’re, most are from Nigeria and only God knows why they chose Ghana. I don’t see myself investing in banks like guarantee trust bank, stanbics and the rest. They are not genuine a bit.
