Bishop Obinim Missed A Court Date Due To ‘Sickness’, His Lawyers Claim – But The Trial Judge Wants Some Proof

Founder and leader of the International Godsway Ministries, Bishop Daniel Obinim, was absent in court Friday when the case involving him flogging two members of his church for engaging in pre marital s*x, which led to the girl getting pregnant, was called.

The two were reportedly minors in the Bishop’s care which led to his arrest and arraignment, but during proceedings in court on Friday Obinim was not present, with his lawyers claiming he was sick.

His lawyers claimed he had been at the Police Hospital that morning for treatment.

“‘Angel’ Obinim was taken ill in the morning and had been sent to the Police Hospital, and was having a medical report [done] to prove it.” his counsel Ralph Poku Adusei told the court.

Although, he added, his client had yet to file the report with the court.

But the prosecution were not impressed and asked for the medical report to be filed if it existed, upon which Obinim’s lawyer replied that the it was the job of the court to scrutinise the report and not the prosecution.

Thus trial judge Mrs. Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku adjourned the case till 26th January, and asked Obinim’s lawyers to produce the medical report to the court.

Commenting further, Ralph Poku said the two ‘minors’ in the case, who Obinim was under trial for abusing, had filed a new statement with police to indicate they were not minors. That, in his opinion, destroys the prosecution’s case since their entire case hinged on the two – Illiasu and Gyesiwaa – actually being minors.

You would recall Obinim made waves last year after a video surfaced of him flogging a boy and a girl in his church. He claimed the pair were his wards and he was disciplining them for engaging in pre marital s*x whilst under his care.
