Private Citizen John Mahama Is Desperately Crying Out For Attention

blankFormer President John Dramani Mahama lost elections miserably last year to the NPP’s Nana Akufo-Addo, who has since taken over his office.

Mahama, who was super confident of winning a second term, has all of a sudden been forced into obscurity whilst his nemesis hogs all the headlines.

So if you’re John Dramani Mahama, what do you do to stay relevant? You do things out of the ordinary, things guaranteed to make news.

We first noticed this on Tuesday, when he sent out a tweet on the immigration ban implemented by US President Donald Trump.

“The travel ban is regrettable. The ongoing AU summit must address this development.” he tweeted.

It was a little out of the blue for a former leader with no locus in this issue to send out his public thoughts like that, especially considering the kind of person Trump is and how he personally takes such slights.

It was more like a cry for attention than anything else – the leaders of Somalia, Sudan and Libya were at the summit but the summit won’t address the issue until Ghana’s former leader tweets about it?

Wednesday brought its own case, as we saw Mahama and his Onaapo jollof. The photo stands out because in all the years Mahama has been in the public eye he’s never done anything like it.

I initially wrote it off as a man on retirement simply relaxing, but the photo generated a lot of buzz and got him as the centre of attention once again.

Two out of the ordinary acts in two days, can’t wait to see what’s scheduled for tomorrow.
