The first lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, has inaugurated the Floating Production and Storage Offloading (FPSO) vessel John Agyekum Kuffour at a ceremony in Singapore.

The newly constructed vessel, which would soon set sail for Ghana, is named in honour of the former President of the country and would be expected to berth at one of the nation’s oil fields.

The FPSO John Agyekum Kuffour would operate in the offshore Cape Three Points fields in Ghana’s Western Region, the third and largest FPSO to operate in the country.

The vessel was built by Keppel Offshore and Marine Shipyard Company of Singapore, and is expected in the country by April.

Mrs Akufo-Addo, the guest of honour, was on hand to commend the former President for his efforts that eventually led to Ghana discovering oil.

The 78 year old Kuffour also spoke at the event, and thanked the country for the honour of naming the vessel after him.

Ghana’s two other Floating Production and Storage Offloading vessels are the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah and the FPSO John Atta Mills.
