Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia last week raised an alarm about the construction of a new Vice Presidential villa, which he claims is costing the taxpayer $14m.
Th mansion was started by the NDC government and Dr Bawumia raised the alarm, wondering why such a project could go for as high as the $14m figure which are in official documents.
The NDC has denied the claims, alleging that the NPP are simply playing politics as the house costs ‘just’ $5.9m, but the NPP have provided evidence to back up their claims.
So a ‘cash strapped’ nation like Ghana, which has frozen public sector hiring, raised utilities through the roof, and scrapped teaching and nursing training allowances, all because there is no money – can find money to build a $14m mansion?
As Dr Bawumia wondered, “Are the gates made of gold?”
Work on the project has reportedly stalled because contractors have not received the rest of their money, as shown in the document.
