Officials of the National Sports Authority (NSA) have revealed plans to use the Accra Sports Stadium as a venue for premiering movies and other such similar activities in order to generate revenue to run the place.

The national edifice has fallen into a state of disrepair in recent years as funds to manage the place have dried up.

This has led to a situation where despite being the national stadium, the stadium is in horrible shape with rusty stands and a deteriorating pitch, becoming a national embarrassment instead of a national treasure.

To arrest this slide, the Director General of the NSA, Joe Kpenge, has said they are looking into the new measure as a means to generate some funds to better manage the place.

“We have been thinking about finding ways to generate revenue to run our activities so we are now trying to see if we can be showing films or premiering movies here to get some revenue,” he told Starr Sports.

The stadium has even suffered power cuts due to being unable to pay its bills, and Kpenge said such a move might be necessary to keep the edifice afloat.
