The National Organiser for the NDC, Kofi Adams, has sued the NPP’s Deputy General Secretary Nana Obiri Boahen for defamation.

Obiri Boahen passed comments to the effect that Kofi Adams had stolen some cars from the state – after the police seized his vehicles and later cleared him – leading to Adams arguing the statement as defamatory and thus filing suit.

He’s requesting damages to the tune of Ghc 1m.

The suit was filed in Accra Wednesday by Adams’ lawyer, Samson Lardi Ayenini.

Kofi Adams had his cars seized by government officials weeks ago, as allegedly part of a missing group of cars at the Presidency. However, the cars were released to him after police investigations could find no evidence they belonged to the state.

But a furious Nana Obiri Boahen went on air and berated the police for not doing their jobs well, claiming Adams had stolen the cars.

But Adams took umbrage to that, and instructed his lawyers to write to Obiri Boahen to retract his statement and apologise. He refused to do so, thus leading to this legal action.

He is seeking an unqualified apology from Obiri Boahen for the comments, a retraction to be made in the same media outlets he made them, the Ghc 1m damages, plus other reliefs.
