South Africa is already a hotpsot for foreigners with the frequent xenophobic attacks breaking out – but it seems being a famous footballer is not even enough to save you from crime.

Zimbabwean footballer Khama Billiat, who plays for the South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns, was mugged in Kyalami Monday.

Billiat was filling up on fuel at a filling station in the town north of Johannesburg when the incident occurred.

The robbers, six in number, arrived armed with AK 47’s and made off with his watch and wallet. They also forced him to withdraw money from a nearby atm.

“It’s very unfortunate and sad that such crimes occur in our country. We are very happy though that Khama is not injured or harmed in anyway,” Sundowns spokesperson Thulani Thuswa is quoted as saying.

“I spoke to him [Billiat] not so long ago and is he also happy to have escaped with his life. I asked him and he said he was going to put in petrol and buy some minor stuff, including prepaid electricity.” he added.
