The spokesperson of the Ghana Football Association, Ibrahim Sani Dara, has debunked rumours that the vacant Black Stars job has been handed to former manager Kwesi Appiah.

Sensational reports in the local press have claimed that the committee set up to appoint Ghana’s next coach have settled on Appiah, who led the Stars to qualification to the 2014 Fifa World Cup.

The reports, coupled with other reports that government wants a local coach for the team, seemed to suggest Appiah’s appointment was imminent.

But the FA through its spokesperson has denied that.

Mr Dara told Accra based Citi Fm:

The reports saying that Kwesi Appiah is the new Black Stars coach are not true.

“The FA has just finished receiving applications from coaches and the committee tasked to find a new coach is yet to sit down and work on the applications.

“We should ignore these reports and focus on the committee’s work. It will file a report to the Executive Committee of the GFA and any appointments will be made there. It will not be done by a third party.”

Ghana are on the hunt for a new coach after Avram Grant’s contract with the Ghana Fa expired in February.
