Ghanaian referee Joseph Lamptey has been banned for life by Fifa for ‘unlawfully influencing’ the results of a football game.
Lamptey was the centre official as South Africa took on Senegal in a 2018 World Cup qualifier last November.
Lamptey awarded South Africa a penalty out of nowhere, with replays showing there was no discernible infringement which should have led to the call.
Fifa’s Disciplinary Committee thus have imposed a lifetime ban on Lamptey.
Below, watch video of the incident that led to Lamptey’s steep lifetime ban.
