Ghana is a model democracy when it comes to Africa, a region with several volatile countries and therefore the recent incident of members of a vigilante group- Delta Force invading a courtroom in Kumasi to free some arrested members has gotten the United Nations’ attention.
Following this, the UN “has sent an SOS message to the Flagstaff House, telling the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to ensure that all necessary measures are put in place to investigate the invasion of the Kumasi Circuit Court by the Delta Force and bring the perpetrators to justice” reports KasapaFm.
A joint statement signed by the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and UN Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel, Mohammed Ibn Chambas and the Resident Coordinator of the UN System in Ghana, Christine Evans Klock, dated April 10, 2017, said “those acts are likely to tarnish the image of Ghana as a model of democracy and the rule of law and the earlier the government put measures in place to end these acts the better,” added the website.

The two UN officials outrightly denounced these reprehensible acts that are the latest in a series of similar incidents since the end of the December 2016 elections.
